What is Mock Trial?
Mock trial is an extracurricular group that performs realistic criminal trials with students performing as attorneys, witnesses, clerks, and bailiffs. There are students worldwide that compete in mock trial competition from middle school to college. Students learn skills in areas such as public-speaking, acting, writing, and the law.
Dos Pueblos High School has two mock trial teams, JV and varsity. Both teams are coached by mock trial alumni and experienced attorneys, as well as acting coaches. Our teams compete in county competitions in February, with our varsity team typically moving on to state competitions in April. Our varsity team also competes in the Empire Mock Trial World Championship in the fall.

Mock trial enriched my high school experience unlike any other program or activity. I practiced goal-oriented work ethic, learned communication skills, and saw first-hand what effective teamwork looks like, all of which have benefited me immensely far beyond the mock trial competitions. Not to mention, mock trial was and still remains a reliable source of community and support for me.

I cannot say enough about mock trial. Going into it, I never could have predicted how much I would get out of it. Skills like public speaking, improvisation, acting, writing, communication, collaboration… the list goes on. Most importantly it gave me my closest friends and, as cliche as it sounds, some of the best weekends of my life. If you’re even thinking about joining, do it!
